Memorial Lectureship
Wyeth, and specifically Women's Health Care, lost a valued colleague and friend with the passing of Gail E. Goldsmith, Associate Director of Professional Education Support, Women's Health, on March 28. As an individual, Gail touched many with her generosity, passion for life, sense of humor, integrity, and courage.
As a professional, Gail dedicated her entire career to improving the health of women through science, education, and self-actualization. A trained medical embryologist, Gail joined Wyeth in the Women's Health Research Institute, and later worked in Global Medical Affairs, Women's Health Care Marketing, and Professional Education Support.    As part of her position in Professional Education Support, Gail represented Wyeth as one of the Corporate Partnership Council for the Medical Education Foundation of the American College of Osteopathic Obstetricians and Gynecologists (MEFACOOG). Upon learning of her passing, MEFACOOG suggested that Gail be honored with an endowed women's health lectureship in her name. The endowment is for a term of 10 years, and provides for an annual lecture on a women's health topic to be determined by the American College of Osteopathic Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOOG). The lectures will take place on the first day of the ACOOG Annual Meeting.

Philanthropy

Philanthropy; from the Greek, philo-to love and anthropos- mankind.
When I last spoke to Gail in hospice shortly before she died, I asked her what it looked like from where she was, so close to the other side. She wondered if her life had made a difference; to those she loved; her friends and her family, and the people she worked with. But especially, did she make a difference in the lives of women?
I will forever be touched by the fidelity she paid to her passion for education of those of us on the front line of making a daily difference in the lives of our patients. I believe that from time to time, people appear along our paths that remind us of why we do what we do.
I remember how Gail was delighted when she learned that one of the winning MEFACOOG/WYETH Resident Reporter articles selected for the MEFACOOG Newsletter in 2003 was entitled, Spirituality in Medicine. We underestimate sometimes, the importance, of seeking to understand the spiritual identity of our patients.
Gail did not know, in this life, of the Memorial Lectureship that has since been established by her friends and colleagues at Wyeth and ACOOG. I know Gail will continue to make a difference in the lives of women. Grateful am I for the opportunity to have known her. I look forward to thanking her someday for what she has meant to our College, the Foundation, and the patients we all serve. Steve P. Buchanan DO, Executive Vice President
